I love bacon, LOVE, but let’s be honest you can have too much of a good thing. One of my favourite family day meals is a BLT piled high with extra of everything. If you don’t have to smash it down to get it into your mouth it just isn’t stuffed enough. While BLT’s have lots of good stuff like lettuce and tomatoes there is also mayo and bacon. In my quest to lighten up some of my favourite meals I swapped out some ingredients for healthier alternatives. This is one of the results…
A TBST! A Bacon Style Turkey, spinach and tomato masterpiece.
I love the fact that by swapping out just 2 of the ingredients I have reduced the fat and increased the vitamins and minerals without sacrificing taste.
Butterball Bacon Style Turkey is:
– Minimal shrink after cooking making it perfect for sandwich layering.
Hubby wasn’t sure at first, but he went back for seconds and I even caught him sneaking extras. I think I can safely say he is now sold on how great Butterball Bacon Style Turkey tastes. To make a TBST like I did this is what you will need.
- 2 slices of bread. I usually use a multigrain or whole wheat, but the kids and Hubby prefer white.
- Mayonnaise (light if you are trying to cut calories)
- Honey mustard
- Baby spinach
- 1 -2 tomatoes sliced
- 2-3 slices of cooked Butterball Bacon Style Turkey
- salt and pepper to taste
Prepare the Butterball Bacon Style Turkey according to packaging instructions. Toast the bread and spread a thin layer of mayo and honey mustard on the bread then layer the sandwich as much tomato, spinach and turkey bacon as you like. To take the TBST to a – Whole Notha Level- add in a little havarti or brie cheese. Oh my.
