I love rice. I think my love of rice began back when I was a kid and my mom used to make Spanish rice as a special treat once in a while. My tastes have changed and matured since then and moved past instant rice into fragrant Jasmine rice and now have a new favourite – Naosap Harvest.
Naosap Harvest is a certified organic rice that is grown right here in Canada. Located in the in the pristine, isolated lakes of northern Manitoba, the family run business has grown rice for more than 30 years. Thanks to the internet we can now all enjoy this amazing rice even if we aren’t locals. Ordering is easy and you can get amounts from 1/2 a pound of rice ($3.50) to 50 pounds ($275) right on their website and pay via paypal.
I was sent a 1 pound bag of the organic wild rice and a bag of organic rice flour to review as well as to giveaway as part of my Great Canadian Blog Bash gift basket. I have to say that as a foodie this is probably one of my favourite items from that gift basket. The rice preparation does take a bit longer, but Tracy suggested cooking in bulk and then freezing/refrigerating the leftovers so that they can easily be used in soups and salads, just to name a few. The rice also reheats wonderfully and is even nice to grab as a snack cold. I have to admit that after the first time I ate the rice I couldn’t stop thinking about the unique taste and crunchy texture so it made it onto my table twice that week! I cooked the rice according to the instructions on the website, and added in a pinch of kosher salt and garlic powder. It was divine.
To keep up to date with the latest from Naosap Harvest you can follow them on Facebook or Twitter. I highly recommend that you give this great Canadian company a try. I will be making Naosap Harvest a regular part of my family mealtimes! Thanks for stopping in, I hope you have a great day!
