Date nights are something that my hubby and I are enjoying with a bit more frequency now that we have a daughter that has a babysitting course under her belt. While they aren’t big affairs, a quick drink at the local pub or a movie after the kids are in bed, date night has never been as fun. Making sure those date nights happen though can be a challenge. If someone suddenly starts sniffling right before the big date the dilemma is, do we stay, or should we go. Keeping the kids healthy is always a priority, but before date night even more so.
With kids and flu season being in full swing sniffles and stomach bugs are just something that happen. I do have a strict hand washing routine in place for when the kids come home, but inevitably illness happens. While I haven’t yet found anything to ward off a tummy bug I have a few different products I like to use to treat and fight off colds and flu.
When I start getting the sniffles I make sure to up my water intake and take a 2x daily dose of Oil of Oregano. If I can catch the bug early enough often it is stopped in its tracks, and if by some chance I miss the window and it does develop into a full-blown cold, taking Oil of Oregano ensures that it will be over sooner. I know, you are probably thinking it can’t be that great. I thought that too the first time I heard about it, but after fighting a sinus infection for months with antibiotics and getting nowhere – a weeks worth of Oil of Oregano cured me. In fact I haven’t had a sinus infection since.
For the kids who refuse the Oil of Oregano I resort to milder tinctures. Products like Cough + Cold for kids help reduce the kids symptoms making for easier days and nights. During post tummy bug recovery I add probiotics to their cereal or morning smoothy to help their intestinal flora balance out. Those things combined with snuggles and movies on the couch help make them feel better fast.
