Summer is the perfect time for backyard barbeques, picnics by the beach and time spent with the people you love. The last thing I want to do is turn on my oven and eat a heavy meal. That means planning light meals that are easily portable and easily made.
The first time my husband introduced me to faux-dogs I wrinkled my nose, but being adventurous decided to give them a try. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed them and they have since become a regular addition to summer supper menu.
Faux-dogs require very little work and are surprisingly satisfying. So satisfying in fact that I rarely have any leftovers.
What you will need:
- 1 package of Schneiders Sliced Cooked Ham
- 6-8 processed cheese slices
- 2-3 sticks of celery
- 1 tablespoon (or to taste) mayonnaise or whipped dressing
Slice the ham and cheese into small squares and place in a mixing bowl. Dice the celery stalks and add to ham and cheese. Stir in mayonnaise and serve in fresh hot dog buns immediately.
Pair your faux-dogs with a fresh fruit salad and/or veggies and dip for a satisfying and refreshing meal that beats the heat by keeping your stove and oven off.
What is your favourite 15 minute meal?
