Weekends mean family movie night, but I think this long weekend calls for something bigger and better. Family day, after all, is about sneaking in some extra special family time with the kids. While getting out sounds like fun, after being gone so much now that I am working again I feel that a little winter nesting is in order.
For the Family Day long weekend my middle daughter has requested a Chronicles of Narnia marathon and all I can think is – heck yeah! I’m all in for a full day of snuggling in front of my fake fireplace, with a big bowl of popcorn on my lap, enjoying a good movie with the kids. Now that I have the best popcorn popper around, thanks to Hamilton Beach, we can enjoy Kettle Style Popcorn till our fingers are greasy and our tummies are full.
This isn’t your ordinary popcorn maker. The Kettle Style Popcorn Popper makes some of the best popcorn I have ever had. It’s perfect for those nights when you need a little or a lot of popcorn – it can pop up to 24 cups per batch! Best of all, no searching for a bowl big enough. The popcorn pops into it’s own large serving bowl, which I have discovered is designed for perfect popcorn seasoning. I can now butter, season, and then flip the popcorn right in the bowl without getting any popcorn on the floor, much to my pooch’s dismay.
The New Kettle Style Popcorn Popper has a unique kettle design that looks great on the counter-top. If counter space is at a premium then the top and bottom nest into each other for space-saving storage. Lastly the whole top opens for easy loading and cleaning, plus it’s dishwasher safe (although a good scrub is needed if you overcook some kernels).
When it comes to popcorn I’m a traditionalist. I like a little butter and salt, seasoning salt, or my chicken seasoning on occasion. If you like to switch things up though I highly recommend checking out these posts by Pink Chai Living, and How to Survive Life in the Suburbs. One last tip: When making the popcorn try switching up the oils you use. Try coconut, peanut, sunflower, canola, soy or a combination of any two. You’d be surprised how much the oil can change the taste of the popcorn. Our favourite combo right now is a 50/50 sesame/canola mix.
