Back in my early days of being a mom one of the many things I wanted to do was to make sure to capture every moment with my little one. You might even say that motherhood ignited my passion for photography. In the beginning I didn’t know very much about the art of photography, but I knew when a picture was a good one, and I knew that my little point and shoot just wasn’t doing the job. By the time my son came along I was frustrated with photos that had sharp backgrounds but blurry faces, others that were washed out because of flash, and that the photos didn’t come out the camera in the way I was seeing in my mind. I didn’t have the budget for an SLR so I did the next best thing and bought a camera that offered more than your basic point and shoot. That camera was a FUJIFILM camera. I don’t remember the make or model, but I know I delighted in the fact that I could control some of the settings to bring my photographic vision to life.
Camera’s have come a long way since then and FUJIFILM still remains one of the leaders digital imaging. The FUJIFILM X-A2 is part of a new generation of mirrorless cameras that offer superior photos while maintaining a compact and lightweight package. When paired with an interchangeable lens you have a camera system that is ideal for every level of photographer, from the mom who wants better pictures, to the foodie, and on to the world traveler. It’s even a great option for the more experienced photographer who is looking at something more portable for capturing everyday snapshots.
I was sent the FUJIFILM X-A2 bundled with a 16-50mm lens and was asked to give my thoughts on how it can improve my business (blogging), family and personal life by making it easy to shoot and preserve memories. Going into this I am no stranger to how a camera works and have spent a great deal of time and money building a foundation in digital photography. I expected to like this camera having read many reviews previously, but I was surprised by how much it impressed me.
The FUJIFILM X-A2 mirrorless camera is an ultra-light, selfie-ready camera that gives you quick access to a 175° high resolution tilting LCD with face and eye detection for fast and fun pictures. This affordable entry point into the X-Series line of digital cameras delivers outstanding image quality thanks to its large 16.3 Megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor. Fast multi-target autofocus makes sure you always capture your subject perfectly – even if there’s more than one. And the wireless image transfer makes it easy to quickly share your photos and movies on social media.
- Sensor – APS-C CMOS
- Effective Pixels – 16MP
- LCD Monitor – 3.0-inch Tilting LCD(920K-dot)
- Sensitivity –ISO 25600
For the uninitiated the above technical stats mean that the FUJIFILM X-A2 takes great pictures in all situations including low light and fast paced situations. Not only that, but the images that you get off the camera can be blown up and printed, or easily shared online. There are many things I love about this camera, and many more things I still am learning, but below are some of the reasons I’m thrilled to add the FUJIFILM X-A2 to my camera bag.
Wireless Image Transfer
The wireless sharing feature of the FUJIFILM X-A2 is my favourite feature. With it I have streamlined my blogging and social media sharing. With the help of the FUJIFILM Camera Application and a few quick clicks in camera I can almost instantly post my favourite captures to all of my social media properties. In addition to sharing my images I can also use the free app to download location data from my smartphone to tag your photos. No more guessing where a particular shot was taken, I can just geolocate it in case I need a name or to find that particular spot again. Your friends can also download the FUJIFILM Photo Receiver for easy sharing of images without the complications of passwords. Discovering that I can also automatically transfer and save photos onto my PC via Wi-Fi without constantly removing the SD card blew my mind. I can’t tell you how many times I have gone somewhere and pulled out my camera only to realize that it’s essentially useless because I forgot the SD card in my computer. That one feature is sure to save my bloggers butt more than once.
Macro is one of my favourite ways to capture the world. There is something magical about viewing the world up close and personal. With the FUJIFILM X-A2’s auto macro function you can capture objects just 15cm / 6″ from the sensor. There is no messing around with switching to a specialized lens or extenders as the camera automatically senses when an object is close enough to the sensor for the image to be considered macro. This makes the FUJIFILM X-A2 an excellent choice for Foodies.
Advanced Filters and Settings
You are only limited by your imagination when it comes to getting creative with this camera. With six classic film settings and eight in camera filters, as well as the ability to take double exposed shots, you can skip the hours spent editing and go straight to sharing your creative side. These shots were taken using the partial colour filter.
High Sensitivity performance for noise-free and shake-free photos, even in low light.
This is one feature that my husband commented on. He was suitably impressed with the image quality coming out of this camera when he took it for a spin at the kids Christmas concert. While I value fill flash, on the whole I don’t like the way it washes out my pictures. While the X-A2’s flash sensor automatically delivers the ideal amount of flash for every scene, I still prefer shooting without flash. With the FUJIFILM X-A2 it’s not only possible, the photos turn out great. If I change my mind I have the option of not only using the pop up flash, but I can purchase a separate TTL flash if my lighting needs change.
This is a 100% crop of an image my husband took at the kids concert. So not only was it shot in low light, but from a significant distance. Thank goodness for that zoom lens. (Parts of the image have been intentionally blurred to disguise other students and writing was added via PicMonkey.)
Here is a more classic situation for us. A mid winter moment captured in our living room.
I really could go on and on about all the different creative options that the FUJIFILM X-A2 offers, not only that, but those features that make this camera so easy to use right out of the box. From easy to navigate menus to quick buttons in just the right place, everything on this camera make it easy to capture that perfect selfie or group shot, or quickly change into another creative mode.
Talking about selfies, the X-A2 was made for them. Taking the perfect holiday selfie, or group shot, is easy thanks to the LCD screen that flips up 175°. Eye detection automatically activates when you rotate the tilting LCD panel, which helps you get better selfies by focusing on the eyes. Pair it with the self timer and group shots are a breeze.
The FUJIFILM X-A2 is the perfect gift for the Mom, or Dad who wants a camera that will take good photos of her family, or for the blogger looking to step up her photos to the next level. Snap all those holiday photos yourself or hand the camera over to a friend and be assured that image quality won’t suffer. Help the Mom, Dad, or blogger in your life get into the picture this holiday season by adding it to your shopping list. Head over the FUJIFILM website to find out everything the FUJIFILM X-A2 can do, or better yet pick one up for under the tree. The X-A2 retails for $549.99.
