I don’t know if it’s just me, but the story of Heidi is as much a part of my childhood as sleepovers and Saturday morning cartoons. I don’t remember who used to read me the book, but I remember thinking how nice it would be to be Heidi and live in the Alps with my Grandfather and have a friend like Peter. My Mother used to tell me tales of visiting the Alps with her Aunt and Uncle which I think helped me love the book even more. Now the story comes alive for me and my children in a whole new way.
With vibrant pictures and an endearing storyline and colorful illustrations this is a great addition to your book app library. Unlike other books to apps Heidi Part II doesn’t have creatures popping out from beneath the pages it’s truly a story book that you read on your device, and a nice change from it’s overly commercial counterparts. It does still include some interactive features that include:
– Choose between ‘Read to me’ and ‘I want to read myself’
– Touch the persons to make them speak (in the German version, have the Swiss people speak in Swiss Dialect or German)
– Touch animals and objects to hear them make sounds
I have really enjoyed reading this book with my children and I am thrilled that I have the option of exposing my children to my mother tongue, plus it gives me the opportunity to brush up on my German. Even better my kids find the German a riot and because of that it has really opened up their minds to the idea of picking up a third language. I love that!
