Itchy Legs no More #EczemaAndMe.

If you are a mom to child with eczema, or you are dealing with it yourself, you know how frustrating it is trying to treat it. Each doctor you see prescribes lotions that at best mask the symptoms but never take care of the eczema completely. Many of them don’t solve the issue of the itch or have cortisone that isn’t good for prolonged use. You’ve probably tried dietary changes, different laundry soaps, home remedies and religiously applying lotions daily too.

I have dealt with varying levels of eczema for just about as long as I have been a parent. When my second daughter was about 3 months old we noticed a dry patch behind her ears that was diagnosed as eczema. From there the patches of Dry skin spread under her arms, behind her knees and in the crooks of her elbows. When my last daughter not only got eczema but got a more persistent case I did my best to keep her comfortable while we treated flares, and did all I could to prevent them, but even our best wasn’t good enough. Luckily she outgrew eczema for the most part and only patches of dry skin show up on her face in winter.

While my other two daughters had very visible breakouts of eczema my oldest daughter has had a less obvious, but more persistent case. Her issue – painfully dry legs that itch then get irritated from her scratching and then she breaks out in a rash which leads to more itching. Every cream we have tried has done little to help even with regular application and home remedies have proved useless. After 3 or 4 days of no relief she would get frustrated, stop using the treatment and the cycle would start again. We have tried to treat her, unsuccessfully, for at least two years and it wasn’t until last week that we started to see a light at the end of the tunnel.

Triple Threat to dry skin!

I was sent some samples of the new POLYSPORIN®ECZEMA ESSENTIALS™ as part of a blogger campaign with Mom Central and asked to share our experience with the product. I expected it to help, after all we are a Polysporin family and have used their line of products for years. What I didn’t expect was for it to work so well. Perhaps its the combination of the body wash and cream used together that is it’s secret to success, but what ever it is for the first time in years my daughter has had relief. After the first couple of washes my daughter didn’t notice a marked difference, but by use number three she started to itch less and now with almost 2 weeks of use under her belt she tells me she definitely notices a difference. Just going by the fact that she hasn’t missed using it once since it’s arrived speaks volumes.

I was sent each of the following products:

Polysporin Eczema Essentials Daily Moisturizing Cream is suitable for everyday use and is specifically intended for the daily management of eczema-prone skin. It restores healthier looking skin in just 3 days by reducing redness, swelling & scaling and is clinically proven to improve symptoms of eczema within that time, with continued improvement over 2 weeks. Aside from relieving dryness, itch and irritation due to eczema, it helps to strengthen and restore your skin’s natural barrier function which breaks that cycle of itch scratch, rash repeat. It utilizes a Unique RELIPID formula which contains a lipid, humectant, emollient and botanical blend to help retain moisture essential for healthy looking skin.

Polysporin Eczema Essentials Daily Body Wash moisturizes while gently cleansing even the most dry, sensitive skin and is ideally suited for eczema-prone skin. Their unique RELIPID™ formula contains a lipid, humectants, emollient and botanical blend to help retain moisture essential for healthy-looking skin. The body was is gentle enough for everyday use and suitable for even children to use. It’s soap-free and fragrance-free.

Polysporin Eczema Essentials Hydrocortisone Anti-Itch Cream is frangrance free and is used to relieve itch due to eczema and is particularly useful during flare ups. It helps improve dryness, flaking and redness associated with eczema and minor skin irritations. My daughter hasn’t used this product yet as she found relief from the body was and cream, but I used it for a flare up of itchy skin and it worked like a charm to sooth the itch.

For usage instructions or more information please visit Polysporin.ca. They also offer eczema prevention tips to help your skin stay healthy in between flare-ups and hopefully prevent them as well. You can also find Polysporin Canada on Twitter for more skin care tips and advice.

What are some things you have tried to sooth sore skin due to eczema?

  1. Only Maia needs it but Marie is ordering it at our local drug store today. Her skin has been awful because her boyfriend’s parents had the whole house sprayed to stop some kind of insect infestation. They even did all the beds and bedding. Maia has been in crisis. This looks very helpful though and she will just need to stay away from his place.

  3. CliffordPerkins  You can pick this up at your local pharmacy or in Walmart I suspect. You can also get it online at Well.ca – http://well.ca/brand/polysporin.html?affid=NUGGLE (affiliate)

  4. I must check out walmart.  Sometimes in the middle of nowhere they don’t have want they would in the city.  This is awesome for the kid.  The dryness here compared to the humidity of Ontario is hurting the both of us.

    1. I’m not looking forward to the dry of Alberta either when it comes to skin and bloody noses. You can order it on well.ca and shipping is free if you don’t have a Walmart close by.

  5. Hi Julia, just wanted to let you know that I purchased all three products of the Polysporin Eczema Essentials.  Found them at my Walmart like you said and it’s just been 5 days and I can feel and see the difference in my skin.  My wife is using the lotion on her hands, she has eczema on her hands and she says they feel the best they have in years.  Thanks so much for posting about this product.

  6. CliffordPerkins  I am so glad that you were able to find the products and that they are working so well for both of you. Thank you so much for sharing with me.
