If you’ve ever wanted to pack it in and run away with the circus now is your chance to do it. Cirque Du Soleil’s production of Kurios is under the big top at Northlands, in Edmonton, for a limited time. Suspend your disbelief and leave your worries at the door as you enter a world of mystique and wonder.
I was invited to attend the opening night and really wasn’t sure what to expect. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that the show wasn’t IN Northlands Coliseum as I expected, but rather under a real Big-Top tent BEHIND the Edmonton landmark.
As we entered the venue we were greeted by a live band and stilt walkers, drawing us into the mood of the evening perfectly. Upon finding our seats I was happy to not that unlike the huge production that was TORUK, KURIOS has a more intimate feel. You get up close and personal with the performers as they fly overhead, weave their way through the crowds, and entice you with hauntingly beautiful music. One of the best parts of the evening is that technology isn’t permitted during the performance, allowing you to truly enjoy the show without the distraction of your phone. No pictures, no filming, just pure immersion in the world that is Kurious.
Cirque du Soleil returns to Edmonton with its most acclaimed touring show, KURIOS – Cabinet of Curiosities™. KURIOS presented by Sun Life Global Investments and written and directed by Michel Laprise, KURIOS – Cabinet of Curiosities is a tale in which time comes to a complete stop, transporting the audience inside a fantasy world where everything is possible. In this realm set in the latter half of the nineteenth century, reality is quite relative indeed as our perception of it is utterly transformed. The name of the show refers to the humble and strange characters that inhabit the Seeker’s Cabinet of Curiosities.
Kurios is a show for people of all ages, with feats that will awe and astound you. It has a steampunk feel and an old time circus vibe that draws you into the story. If you see one Cirque Du Soleil Show then make this one, the one. It’s an unequivocally entertaining way to spend an evening enjoying a trip back in time to a place where and when nothing was more exciting than the day the Circus came to town.
Ever since reading the book The Night Circus, I’ve wanted to experience something just like this. It was a fantastic performance that I would actually pay to see again.
Kurios is in Edmonton until August 13th, 2017. Tickets, VIP and Backstage Tour packages are available by visiting cirquedusoleil.com/kurios or calling 1-877-9CIRQUE (1-877-924-7783). Tickets start at $49. Included in all KURIOS ticket purchases is a free KDays gate admission pass.
