Nug's Sweet and Spicy Chili

This is a new family favorite. You can make it spicier by upping the amount of Cayenne and Chili powder. Serve it up with this corn bread or my easy white bread (recipe to come I promise) and voila…a perfect cold weather meal.


2 Lbs ground beef. (0.9 kg) I like lean beef but any is fine.
1 1/2 cups onions (375 ml)
2 peppers I like red and green
1 cup frozen corn (250 ml)
2 19 oz cans (540ml) of your favorite beans strained and rinsed
1 19 oz can diced tomatoes (540 ml)
1 14 oz can tomato sauce (398 ml)
1-2 tbs brown sugar (15-30 ml) (the more you add the sweeter it is)
1-2 tbs molasses (15-30 ml) (with molasses more is always better)
1 tsp garlic powder (5 ml)
1/4 tsp celery salt (1 ml)
2-3 Tbs chili powder (30-45 ml)
1/8 tsp cayenne (pinch)
*1 TBS Tiger Sauce (15 ml) Optional
salt and pepper to taste
pinch of cumin

Brown ground beef. Drain off fat. Add all the ingredients to the pot and stir. Bring to a slow boil over Med heat. Reduce and simmer for 2 ish hours. Taste along the way, when the beans and veggies are soft it’s ready. You can also cook this all day over low in a slow cooker. Yumm. Let me know if you tried and liked this recipe.
