“SpeeZees are cute.”
If you ask my daughter what she thinks of the latest addition to her t-shirt drawer that would be her response. As I mom I know there is so much more to high quality t-shirts than the cuteness factor. Price is only one thing to consider when shopping around for new clothes. You also want something that will stand up to playtime, frequent washing, and has a soft touch for your little ones sensitive skin.
Another thing to consider is how is that piece of clothing you are buying is going to impact the earth. Organic clothing not only feels better against sensitive skin it’s also better for the environment is so many ways. SpeeZees are all of those things and more. Aside from wearing well and doing their part to keep our earth green by using organic 100% GOTS certified organic cotton, SpeeZees give back to organizations that are working to restore and preserve each species represented on their tees.
SpeeZee’s are Tees with A Cause
The idea for SpeeZees came about over family mealtime. About 3 years ago, while 4 year old Nadia was eating breakfast with her family, discussions turned to how her cereal was helping conserve Mountain Gorillas. As children tend to do, she wondered out loud what her family could do to make a difference. Luckily her parents ran with the idea and used their organic cotton blank onesie and kids t-shirt company (Zee Spot) as a launching point for what is now SpeeZees. Over the course of a couple years as a family they selected 10 random animals they all loved and felt needed some attention, consulted with the IUCN, spoke with a myriad of conservation groups, worked with a super talented local artist Kit Maloney, got kids together and got their feedback and input and – voila! – SpeeZees was born! With each purchase of a SpeeZeee, $1 goes directly to the dedicated organization connected working to restore and preserve each t-shirt’s species. I think that’s wildly awesome!
What makes SpeeZees stand out above your average organic tee?
- Each of their soft, high quality fairly traded tees are 100% GOTS certified organic cotton.
- All tees are locally printed with textured eco-friendly inks, up to 15 colours per print.
- Each design features the Latin genus and species of the animal and provides a reliable estimation (from the IUCN) of how many of these animals remain in existence. each animal’s offspring are intentionally kept white to subtly suggest that their future continuation as a species is in question.
- The hang tags are plantable, made from wildflower seeded recycled paper. Yes, kids can grow a little wildflower garden with their hang tags!
My daughter really does love her Speezees and the only thing negative I have to say about them is that they are currently only available in sizes 2, 4 and 6. At $16 a tee they are reasonably priced and the quality is worth every penny.
We say children are our future and with little ones like Nadia I think we are in good hands. SpeeZees are available online and in select retailers. Give them a follow on Twitter and Facebook to stay on to of new product releases, retail location features, and more.
