Things to Consider When Buying Your First DSLR

There will be tonnes of great deals to be had on DSLR Cameras in the next few days for Black Friday and Cyber Monday. To help make sure you are shopping smart I put together this vlog. It’s a little on the long side, but worth watching if you are serious about getting the right camera for you.

My recommendations vary depending on what you are looking for in a camera and what you are going to use it for, but the Canon Rebel line is a great starting point.

My top pick for Canon lenses to use in blog related photography, and the ones I use and love are:

Canon EF 40mm/2.8 STM Standard Lens, Black

Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS II Telephoto Zoom Image Stabilized Lens (2044B002)

If you have a bigger budget consider adding these lenses as well.

Tamron AF 28-75mm f/2.8 SP XR Di LD Aspherical (IF) for Canon Digital SLR Cameras (Model A09E)

Sigma 30mm f1.4 DC HSM Lens (Canon)

I do say in the vlog that I don’t like the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Camera Lens, that’s not completely true. I have owned 4 thinking each time that I buy one that it will be great for blogging and or photos of the kids on my Xsi. I never use them though opting for one of the above lenses. That said if you have a full frame camera then it’s a great lens to have in your kit. For the purposes of the new DSLR photographers I stuck to crop sensor camera recommendations.
